Ten foreigners killed
A senior official at the Indonesian Disaster Victim Identification Agency (DVI) said Friday that ten foreigners were among the victims of crashed Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane in Indonesia's West Java province.
"Those ten foreigners were eight from Russia, one from the United States and another one from France," DVI Executive Director Anton Castilani said here.
He said that five people among the 50 listed in the initial passengers manifest had reported to DVI about their safety. They cancelled to board the plane in last minutes before the plane took off from Halim Perdanakusumah airport for a demonstration flight.
"It means that there were 45 people onboard the plane. Identification of 35 Indonesian nationals had been reported by their families to DVI. Families of the French and the U.S. nationals onboard the plane have also reported identification of their relatives," Anton said.
Indonesian, Russian investigators probe into crash
Investigators from Indonesia and Russia have started investigation into the crash of Sukhoi super jet-100 plane in mountainous area of West Java, Indonesian investigator said here Friday.
The Sukhoi commercial plane carrying Russian businessmen, officials of Russian embassy office in Jakarta and journalists, went down during a promotion flight on Wednesday at the Bogor regency near Jakarta.
Russia opens criminal case
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the crash of Russian aircraft in Indonesia, in which survivors from the at least 45 people on board have yet to be found.
Committe spokesman Vladimir Markin said the investigation into the crash of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 commercial aircraft started Thursday.
"As part of the criminal case, investigators will have to analyze the procedure of the crew's training before the flight and to assess technical conditions of the airplane itself before it left Russia," he told reporters.
Indonesian president demands investigation on Sukhoi plane crash
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday demanded a full investigation on the crash of Sukhoi super jet 100 on Wednesday, according to local media reports.
The picture of the wreckage displays it was broken into many small pieces, indicating a small possibility of survival in a mountainous area in Bogor near Jakarta.
Rescuers find dead bodies at scene of Sukhoi plane crash, no sign of survivor
Rescuers have arrived at the scene of the Sukhoi super jet 100 crash and found some dead bodies, but have not found any survivors yet, a government official said here on Thursday.
They were preparing for evacuation of the victims and searching for the black box, said Gagah Prakoso, spokesman of the Search and Rescue Agency.
