The death toll of rain-triggered landslides and floods in southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu, rose to 29, with three other missing, local authorities said on Tuesday.

In Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, rescue teams retrieved Tuesday the body of a 55-year-man from the disaster site where landslides swept over several houses last week.

The authorities said there are still three people missing in two prefectures hit by the landslides and floods, and rescue operations continue at the disaster sites on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, in two cities of Fukuoka Prefecture, more than 250 people living in several residential districts remain cut off as roads to the areas have been heavily damaged by landslides.

The Japan Meteorological agency said torrential trains caused by a seasonal rain front passed their peak in northern Kyushu while warning that a typhoon which approaches southern Kyushu may bring further rains and strong winds across a wide area of the southern prefectures of Kyushu Island which may see hourly rainfall between 50 and 60 mm over the next few days.
