Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-23 18:15

Rescuers recovered Monday the bodies of two of the three teenagers who went missing on Sunday while they were swimming in Lake Biwa in the western Japanese prefecture of Shiga, local press reported.

The two bodies, identified as an 18-year-old student and a 19 year-old student, were found in the water about 100 meters off the coast of the lake by a team of divers at around 11 a.m. local time after the rescue teams restarted their search in the early-morning hours, the press said.

The three men were reportedly swept away by a lake current about 100 meters off a river mouth which is located about 500 meters north of a beach in Nagahama City of the prefecture, in which they began swimming with their other friends on Sunday afternoon. Several boats and a helicopter from local police and fire departments continue to search for the youth who are still missing.
