Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-28 15:18

Indian Defence Minister A K Antony will review the security situation Saturday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir and interact with troops deployed on line of control (LoC), officials said.

"Defence Minister will review the security situation in the Valley and also chair the Unified Headquarters meeting,"said a defence spokesman based in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir, on Saturday.

Antony is scheduled to visit the region Saturday on a two day visit. He will be accompanied by Indian army chief General Bikram Singh and Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma. "The minister will also be visiting and interacting with the troops deployed in forward locations,"the spokesman said.

The region's forward locations include LoC, a de facto border dividing Kashmir into Indian and Pakistani-controlled parts.

The defencem minister will interact with the region's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and will call on the region's Governor N N Vohra during his two day visit.

Officials say the issue of Armed Forces Special Powers Act ( AFSPA) is likely to come up in the discussions during the Unified Headquarters meeting. The local government has been strongly demanding the revocation of AFSPA from some parts of region, a demand opposed by the Indian army.
