India's home minister arrives in riot torn Assam |

India's home minister P. Chidambaram Monday morning landed at the Gopinath Bordoloi airport and left by helicopter for riot affected Kokrajhar district in India's north east state of Assam where violence since July 20 killed 48 people and left 500,00 people homeless.
India's Prime Minister Manmoham Singh visited the area on Saturday and assured the victims living in refugee camps of an inquiry.
Clashes between Bodo tribesmen and Muslims began after a Muslim student leader was reportedly attacked.
Despite deployment of para military forces and Indian army clashes continued for seven days. |
