At least five persons drowned and 10 others went missing after an overpacked boat ferrying over 30 people capsized in the Kosi river in the eastern Indian state of Bihar early Friday, local media reported.

Over a dozen people managed to swim to safety while some were rescued by local villagers, said the Indo-Asian News Service.

Search and rescue operations by local officials and police are still going on.
