Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday that it is "gravely concerned" by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) nuclear test that happened on Tuesday.

The nuclear test is "a clear breach of the relevant United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions and an outrageous act of defiance against the entire international community", the ministry said in a statement posted on the website.

The third nuclear test so far took place underground on Tuesday, and the country's official KCNA news agency said the test was successful and aimed at safeguarding their national security against U.S. hostile policy.

The foreign ministry said "it does not enhance the DPRK's own security and threatens to destabilize the entire region, to the detriment of all, including the DPRK itself."

Singapore calls call upon Pyongyang to desist from further provocative actions, hoping that "the DPRK will change course and integrate itself into the region". "only then can the DPRK share in our region's peace and prosperity," the statement added.

The foreign ministry also said it will make the views known to the DPRK through its Ambassador in Singapore.
