Japanese FM leaves for Israel on regional peace
Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida left here Tuesday for Israel on a five-day trip to mediate Mideast peace, according to local media.
Kishida will host a ministerial meeting on Thursday in the West Bank city of Jericho with participants from Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian sides to underscore a concept raised by Japan, " Corridor for Peace and Prosperity," reported Japan's Kyodo News.
Kishida said that his trip is in concert with U.S. efforts to restore peace talks between Israel and Palestinian Authority.
He is also expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour.
