Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff injured in biking crash: media

Mercedes motorsport chief Torgen Toto Wolff has suffered multiple fractures in a bike accident on Tuesday that was part of a team building exercise near Vienna in Austria, media report said Wednesday.

Technical Executive Director for the Mercedes Formula One team Paddy Lowe was cycling in the lead when he crashed, leaving those behind no time to change course and resulting in numerous collisions.

Four of the group were subsequently injured, worst of all Wolff with fractures to his collar bone, shoulder, elbow, and wrist, Kronen Zeitung newspaper reported.

The 42-year-old Austrian was operated on in a Vienna hospital which included the insertion of a titanium plate, and now has his arm in a sling.

Mercedes team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were not part of the cycling group as they had not yet arrived in Vienna when it took place.

Despite the numerous injuries they are not reported to be serious, with Wolff expected to take part in his role with the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, including media commitments to already begin on Thursday.
