Former Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Thursday reunited with her brother Thaksin Shinawatra, a former premier who is now living in self-exile, in Paris, Thai media reported.

Yingluck departed from Thailand early Thursday morning to start a junta-endorsed vacation in Europe which would last for about 20 days.

She was later greeted by Thaksin, who was ousted by a 2006 military coup and fled Thailand in 2008 to avoid a two-year jail term, at Paris airport, Bangkok Post reported, citing a picture Thaksin's son Panthongtae Shinawatra posted on Instagram in the afternoon.

The picture showed Thaksin hugging a woman, who Panthongtae did not identify. Although the woman's face was not shown in the picture, her clothing matched what Yingluck was seen wearing when she left Suvarnabhumi airport at Bangkok.

Yingluck started her vacation amid speculation that she might not come back to fight a case in which she was alleged of negligence of duty in overseeing a controversial rice-pledging scheme. If found guilty, she could face a jail term as well as a five-year ban from politics.

Before boarding her flight, Yingluck promised to reporters at the Suvarnabhumi airport that she would return in August. She is expected to attend Thaksin's 65th birthday celebration in France on July 26.
