Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has appointed 24 royalist Funcinpec Party figures as advisors to government led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, according to a royal decree released to the media on Monday.

Eight advisors are in a rank equal to minister, six are in the rank of a secretary of state, and 10 are in the rank of an under- secretary of state, said the royal decree dated last week.

"Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia must take responsibility to implement this royal decree from the day of signature," the royal decree said.

The appointment came after Prince Norodom Ranariddh, president of the Funcinpec Party, which is an ally of the ruling Cambodian People's Party, has proposed the prime minister to offer the roles to those royalist officials, and Hun Sen requested the king for an official appointment.

Ranariddh, a son of late revered King Norodom Sihanouk, has returned to lead the Funcinpec Party again since January, eight years after he was ousted from the party in embezzlement charges.
