Myanmar President U Thein Sein had a special separate meeting with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Nay Pyi Taw Monday, state radio and TV reported in an evening news broadcast.

It was the first meeting between the president and the chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in a year since March 9, 2014.

The bilateral meeting focused on the issues of constitution amendment and upcoming general election, the report said.

Myanmar's parliament, in January, re-proposed President U Thein Sein to hold a six-party talks as soon as possible to work out a framework for constitution amendment.

The parliament's important motion was put forward on Nov. 25 last year which called for a six-party talks involving the president, the defense chief, Aung San Suu Kyi, both two speakers of the Lower and Upper Houses and one ethnic representative.

The president further met some leaders of the country's political force in Nay Pyi Taw on Jan. 12 to seek solution of domestic political issues.

Meanwhile, before the 2015 general election planned for November, a nationwide referendum on amendment of the constitution is to be held in May.

Before the referendum, the parliament is to work out a draft constitution amendment law to implement the nationwide referendum whether the amendment will be adopted.

In this regard, both Houses had adopted the draft nationwide referendum law during the last session .

Myanmar's parliament session is underway in Nay Pyi Taw since Jan. 19.
