The Nepalese government has formed a four-member probe panel over the accident where a Turkish Airlines plane skidded off the runway at a Nepalese airport on Wednesday morning, government officials told Xinhua.

The decision was made at a meeting presided over by Nepal's Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Deepak Amatya Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

A probe panel under the leadership of the ministry's former Secretary Nagendra Ghimire has been formed and the panel is entrusted to find out reasons behind the incident, said Ministry spokesman Mohan Krishna Sapkota.

The panel is mandated to submit an investigation report to the government, he added.

Turkish Airlines Flight TK726 skidded off the runway while landing at Nepal's Tribhuwan International Airport at around 8 a.m. local time Wednesday. All 227 people on board, including 11 crew members, were safe.

All passengers and crew were evacuated through the emergency exit after the nose cone of the plane touched the runway.

Officials have said the plane overshot the runway due to poor visibility.

Several international and domestic flights were affected as a result of heavy fog in the only international airport in Nepal following the torrential rainfall over the past three days.
