Tokyo stocks advance in morning as U.S.-Mexico deal brightens mood
Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday morning as the market mood was brightened by the United States and Mexico striking a deal on significant parts of a trilateral free trade agreement that also involves Canada.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 145.13 points, or 0.64 percent, from Monday to 22,944.77.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.41 points, or 0.66 percent, to 1,740.36.
Marine transportation, rubber product, and transportation equipment-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
