Under the joint efforts of China and Vietnam, bilateral cooperation in various fields has reached an unprecedented scope and depth, newly-accredited Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo said here on Thursday.

At a reception held on Thursday evening to mark his new tenure, Xiong said that in recent years, under the strong guidance of the leaders of the two parties and countries, China-Vietnam relations have maintained a sound momentum of development.

The two sides reached a new consensus from the strategic height on inheriting and promoting the traditional friendship between the two parties and countries, as well as expanding and deepening cooperation in various fields under the new situation, which defined the direction and injected a strong impetus for the development of China-Vietnam relations in the new era, the ambassador said.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. China is actively promoting a new round of higher-level reform and opening-up which will drive the transition of the economy from high-speed development to high-quality development, the ambassador said. Vietnam is also vigorously deepening reforms and actively exploring the international market.

"The complementary advantages and huge potential of deepening and expanding China-Vietnam cooperation will be released faster," the ambassador said.
