Putin lauds ties with Bulgaria ahead of visit
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2008-01-18 14:57
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday in a widely-published article in Bulgarian newspapers that ties between the two countries will see an ever brighter future.

Putin wrote the article ahead of his two-day visit to the Balkan country to inaugurate the "Year of Russia in Bulgaria," among other activities, local media said.

Putin reviewed the history of Russia-Bulgaria ties in the article, saying the common cultural traditions and similar languages, and most of all, Russia's role in helping Bulgaria in the fight for national independence and freedom, have laid a solid foundation for the bilateral relations.

With rapid and radical changes taking place across the world, Russia-Bulgaria ties have undergone ups and downs in the past decades, Putin said.

However, Russia believes changes like Bulgaria's EU entry will not hamper ties between the two countries, Putin said, adding that Russia and Bulgaria should work together to attain peace and prosperity.

Putin also said the reciprocal culture year's activities will strengthen the traditional friendship between the two countries and help enhance respect for each other among the two peoples.
