A London court on Wednesday sentenced a looter during England's summer riots last year to 11 and a half years in prison for setting fire to a furniture store in Croydon of south London.
Gordon Thompson, 34, reportedly stole a laptop from the House of Reeves furniture store in south London on August 8 before setting fire to a sofa in the family-run shop.
The fire eventually destroyed the entire building, a landmark in the Croydon neighborhood, and even spread to the opposite side the street.
In a victim impact statement, Trevor Reeves, whose family has owned the shop for generations, described the loss as "bereavement."
Members of the Reeves family were present at the court. |
