Georgia hopes to go to details in October talks with Russia
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-12 14:27

Georgia and Russia might be able to discuss all problems between them in detail in the new round of Geneva talks in October, a Georgian official said Monday.

At a weekly briefing, Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said she welcomed further dialogues with Russia, with which Georgia severed diplomatic ties after a brief war over South Ossetia in August 2008.

Georgia and Russia had held 20 rounds of talks in Geneva in a bid to settle differences.

The Geneva talks are in the format of two working groups, with one focusing on security and the other on humanitarian issues.

The last round of talks was held on Friday. Participants had agreed to hold the next round on Oct. 3.

The Geneva talks are co-chaired by the European Union, the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and participated by Georgia, Russia, the United States and representatives from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, two breakaway regions of Georgia.

After the August 2008 military conflict, Russia recognized the independence of the two regions. Russia's position was immediately condemned by the West.
