Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-29 09:10

The Azerbaijani and Georgian think tanks on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for implementation of joint projects in Baku.

The document was signed by Farhad Mammadov, head of the Azerbaijani Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) and Alexander Rondeli, director of the Foreign Policy Research and Analysis Center at Georgia s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"These agreements give us the legal basis to cooperate with these centers and implement joint projects," Mammadov said at the ceremony. He stressed that MOU will open a new page in Azerbaijan- Georgia cooperation and promote joint projects with the Georgian Center for Strategic Studies.

The Center for Strategic Studies is Azerbaijan's first governmental, non-profit think tank founded in 2007 by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev.

The objective of SAM is to produce the most up-to-date and accurate analyses in the fields of politics, economics and security, and to inform policy makers and the public on political, economic, security and development challenges.

The SAM has already signed similar agreements on cooperation with the think tanks of 14 countries.

Through publications, brainstorming meetings, conferences and policy recommendations, SAM conducts rigorous research with a forward-looking policy orientation.
