Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has appointed his interior minister Ivane Merabishvili to replace Nikoloz Gilauri as the prime minister of the South Caucasus country, government sources announced Sunday.
The announcement was made shortly after a meeting at the presidential palace on Sunday.
Merabishvili has served as interior minister since December 31, 2004 while Gilauri has served as prime minister since February 6, 2009.
No reason was given as to the replacement. Neither was there a mention of the candidate to fill in the portfolio of the interior ministry. |
