BBC journalists go on 24-hour strike over redundancies
BBC journalists started a 24-hour strike Monday to protest compulsory redundancies at the broadcaster.
A number of programs on the BBC Radio were dropped from the schedule, replaced by repeats and news summaries. Some programs were aired as normal but with replacement presenters.
On TV, BBC Breakfast was broadcast from London by a single presenter, instead of its regular Salford hosts.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) said it called the strike after failing to reach an agreement with the management, according to BBC.
BBC said the disagreement was over 30 jobs targeted for compulsory layoffs.
The corporation is cutting about 2,000 jobs over five years, a move the NUJ argues that is leading to quality journalism being compromised.
