A Moscow judge extended the arrest term of the suspects in a brutal attack on the Bolshoi Theater director until mid October, the capital's Tagansky district court said Thursday.

The previous term of their detention was to expire on Aug. 18.

Court ruled the suspects must remain in a pre-trial detention to allow investigators to complete their work.

One of the suspects in the attack on Sergei Filin told the court he should be the only one to bear responsibility for the crime.

"I admit my guilt. It was my initiative, I am the only one to be punished," Yuri Zarutsky told a judge during the hearing.

Zarutsky, 35, has referred to two other defendants, 29-year-old Bolshoi leading dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko and 31-year-old driver Andrei Lipatov, as "innocent children."

He accused investigators of trying to create accomplices because it would allow for a more severe sentence under the Russian criminal code.

Zarutsky also submitted his apologies to Filin, whom he splashed with an acid-urine cocktail in January. Dmitrichenko also asked his former boss to forgive him.

Investigators allege Dmitrichenko paid 50,000 rubles (over 1,600 U.S. dollars) to Zarutsky to "intimidate" his enemy, Filin, and to Lipatov to drive Zarutsky to the scene.

All three were arrested in March.

The dancer earlier said he asked for Filin only to be "intimidated" and denied any plotting of the acid attack.

Filin, 42, who received severe eye burns, has undergone about 20 operations on his face and remains in a German clinic.

If found guilty, the accomplices face from eight to 12 years in prison.
