Belgium is doing everything to make Brussels safe for tourists and business travelers, the country's Prime Minister Charles Michel told his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Wednesday, who is on an official visit here this week.

Belgian newspaper Le Soir said security and the fight against terrorism were the key topics discussed at a meeting between the two leaders.

Michel thanked Abe for his friendship and support following the March 22 terror attacks in Brussels, which killed 32 people and injured more than 300 -- including one Japanese national who remains in hospital.

Abe told Michel that he hoped Japanese people would continue to visit Belgium.

During his two-day visit to Brussels, Abe was also due to meet European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
