Over 50 pct of Poles against admitting refugees

Fifty-three percent of Poles in a survey opposed admitting refugees from war-torn countries, Polish Press Agency reported Thursday.

In a survey by the Public Opinion Research Center, 43 percent believed Poland should accept refugees, while 4 percent did not have an opinion.

The percentage of Poles who are against the admittance of refugees from war-torn countries has gone down by 1 percentage point since November and the percentage of those who believe that Poland should accept them has gone up by 3 percentage points.

Thirty-eight percent of those for granting asylum said that they should be granted asylum in Poland only until they are able to return to their countries, while 5 percent agreed to their permanent settlement in the country.

Fifty-six percent supported admitting refugees from conflict areas in eastern Ukraine (down by 3 percentage points), while 40 percent were against (up by 6 percentage points).

The agency conducted the survey amid a random representative sample of 1,019 adult Poles on from Nov. 4-13 this year.
