Malta records highest employment growth among EU in Q2

Malta recorded the highest employment growth of all European Union (EU) member states in the second quarter of 2017 compared with the previous quarter, Eurostat data revealed on Wednesday.

Malta registered a growth in employment of 4.7 percent compared with a year ago, a growth of 1.0 percent over the previous quarter.

Malta's employment growth was followed by Spain with 0.9 percent, and Greece and Poland both with 0.8 percent.

In contrast, decreases in employment were observed in Croatia, Latvia, Romania and Estonia.

The number of persons employed increased by 0.4 percent in both the euro area and EU in the second quarter of 2017 compared with the previous quarter. Over the same quarter of the previous year, employment increased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and 1.5 percent in EU.
