12 NATO countries to hold military drill in Lithuania

More than 2,300 troops from 12 NATO countries will attend a two-week military exercise Iron wolf II in Lithuania, according to the country's defense ministry on Tuesday.

According to the Lithuanian defense ministry, the drill kicks off on Wednesday in Central and Eastern Lithuania, the Eastern-flank member country of NATO.

"More than 2,300 troops from 12 NATO countries and staff element from NATO Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast will attend the training," said the ministry in a statement.

For two weeks, the Lithuanian soldiers and the troops from NATO enhanced forward presence (EFP) battalion will train operation planning, defense and offense operations, interoperability, said the ministry.

Multinational German-led EFP battalion was deployed in Lithuania earlier this year and has reached its full operational capacity in June.

In June, the first of the Iron Wolf military exercise series was attended by around 5,000 soldiers from 10 NATO countries.
