A Dutch pensioner has launched a legal case for him to be recognized as 20 years younger and better his employment and dating prospects, local media reported.

Emile Ratelband, 69, is now suing local authorities as they refused to amend his age on official documents. He wants to alter his birthday from March 11, 1949 to March 11, 1969, as his medical check-up put his biological age at 45.

A local court in the eastern city of Arnhem is due to deliver a ruling within four weeks.

"Transgenders can now have their gender changed on their birth certificate, and in the same spirit there should be room for an age change," said Ratelband, who is a trainer in neurolinguistic programming, according to The Telegraph.

He claimed that his age has compromised his chances of employment and success on the dating app Tinder. Companies are not willing to hire someone the age of a pensioner as a consultant, he said.

"When I'm on Tinder and it says I'm 69, I don't get an answer. When I'm 49, with the face I have, I will be in a luxurious position," Ratelband added, according to Dutch media Algemeen Dagblad.

He said he is willing to renounce his pension until he reaches retirement age again.

One judge, however, was sceptical about the viability of such a change as the erased 20 years would be tricky. "Who were your parents looking after then? Who was that little boy?" he asked.

The case has sparked wide discussion online. "I'd like to readjust my age back to pre-2000 so I can make different lifestyle decisions. So, let me know if he succeeds," one Twitter user said.

"I'm gonna do the same except to claim that I'm 65 to collect pension and not work anymore," another said.
