Slovak parliament on Thursday adopted a resolution, asking the government to reject the UN Global Compact for Migration.
The resolution passed by 90 lawmakers also demanded the government to carry out relevant measures related to Slovakia's withdrawal from the process of adopting the document at a meeting of governments and high representatives to be held in Morocco on Dec. 10 and 11.
The resolution states that the UN migration compact isn't in line with Slovakia's current security and migration policy.
It further emphasizes Slovakia's sovereignty on the issue of migration policy. "Slovakia is fully sovereign in defining its own national migration policy," reads the resolution.
According to the document, economically motivated illegal migration is a negative phenomenon accompanied by security risks in a national, regional and global context. The resolution states that Slovakia supports resolving the causes of migration in the countries of origin.
