At least six dead in road crash in England
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2004-05-17 09:49
At least six people were killed in a multiple vehicle collision on a main road from London to England's southern coastal city Brighton on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The pile-up, involving at least four or five vehicles, took place at about 4:30 pm on the A23 road, just north of Brighton, the police were quoted by a BBC report as saying.

A four-year-old, a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s were said to be in a serious condition and taken to hospital in Brighton, said the report.

"This is a very serious and rather nasty accident," a spokeswoman for Sussex Ambulance told the BBC.

The road has been closed in both directions and would probably remain closed throughout Sunday night, said the report.
