Iranian president postpones visit to Turkey
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2004-09-27 10:01
Iranian president Mohammad Khatami on Sunday postponed his visit to Turkey as the Majlis (parliament) approved a bill which could hinder the enforcement of two trade contracts signed between Iran and Turkey.

Khatami's visit was originally scheduled for Tuesday. After a cabinet session held on early Sunday, government spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh announced the postponement.

"Due to today's approval of the Majlis, the government decided to postpone president's visit to Turkey in order to receive more confidence on finalizing bilateral agreements," Ramezanzadeh said.

At the cabinet meeting, the issues of contracts with Turkey and Khatami's visit to the country were discussed, Ramezanzadeh added.

Iran's Majlis on Sunday approved a bill aiming at stricter rein on foreign investments.

According to the bill, Iran's contracts with two Turkish companies, respectively on the operation of the Imam Khomeini International Airport and the establishment of mobile phone network, have to be ratified by the Majlis before enforcement.
