Iranian students stage protest before Saudi, Yemen embassies in Tehran

Hundreds of Iranian university students on Tuesday staged protests before Saudi Arabia and Yemen embassies in Tehran "over the killing of innocents."

To protest against the Yemeni government's launch of battle against Shiite rebels in northern Yemen and the alleged contribution of Saudi Arabia to the battle, hundreds of Iranian pro-government university students gathered before Saudi Arabia and Yemen embassies in Tehran.

They were carrying placards on which they wrote "stop genocide of innocent people in Yemen."

They also chanted slogans against the Saudi and Yemeni officials, calling them the perpetrators of the U.S. and Israeli policies in confronting the Muslims.

Also, a group of Iranian students, in a letter handed over to the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, urged the government to deport Saudi ambassador to Tehran in protest against his country's assault on Yemeni rebels, the English language Press TV reported.

Iranians said Saudi air raids on the positions of Yemeni rebels inside Yemeni territories have led to "the killing of innocent ( Shiite) Muslims." The claim was, however, denied by Yemeni government and described as "fabricated, false and baseless."

On the other hand, President Ali Abdullah Saleh has repeatedly accused some Iranian religious figures of providing fund for the rebels, a claim that was rejected by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
