The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Sunday strongly condemned the calls made by Israel's Likud Party to storm into the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem to build the Jews alleged temple, saying such calls pose an "extremely dangerous development."

In a statement faxed to Xinhua, the ministry said that such calls are "systematic provocation," urging the International community to shoulder its responsibility towards this "dangerous development."

It added that Israel should bear the consequences of such " uncalculated adventure," and that this step is a direct threat and a disregard of the Arabs and Muslims all over the world.

Members of the Israeli right-wing Likud party on Thursday called for storming the al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday to build their alleged temple on the ruins of the mosque, Israeli right wing websites was quoted by official Palestinian news agency Wafa as saying.

According to Wafa, several Israeli right-wing websites published an announcement on behalf of the Likud party, calling on thousands of the Likud members to storm the mosque along with a delegation headed by Moshe Feiglin, who ran against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"We call upon everyone to go up the Temple Mount, one of the most important religious sites in the Old City of Jerusalem, to declare a proper leadership which insures our full control of the mount in order to build the temple on the ruins of al-Aqsa Mosque, " the announcement said.

Some Syrian observers have recently predicted that Israel would take advantage of the domestic turmoil in the Arab country to make such move.
