South Korea's online food delivery services market kept a growth rate of over 70 percent for the first five months of this year, a government report showed Wednesday.

Food delivery by online orders was 394.9 billion won (354.2 million U.S. dollars) in May, up 70.2 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

The online food delivery market grew 76.2 percent in January, 70.6 percent in February, 72.9 percent in March and 71.6 percent in April, respectively.

The payment for food delivery was mostly made through smartphone payment system.

The food delivery services in the cyberspace kept rising recently for the convenience of mobile order and payment, the statistical agency said.

The overall online shopping in May was 9.05 trillion won (8.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 22.7 percent from a year ago. It was the second-biggest monthly figure.

Mobile shopping, in which consumers buys goods and services through mobile phones, accounted for 62.2 percent of the total online shopping in May.
