Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels said Tuesday they fired a ballistic missile at Jizan Economic City in Saudi southwestern province of Jizan, the Houthi-controlled state Saba news agency reported.

"The long-range ballistic missile, Badr 1, hit the Saudi economic city," the report said, citing a Houthi statement.

However, Saudi Arabia-owned Al Arabiya television reported that the Saudi air defense forces had intercepted the missile over Jizan and destroyed it.

The television did not give further details or said if there are any casualties.

The Houthi missile strike was the latest in a series of frequent attacks against various areas in Saudi Arabia, which has led a military coalition to fight the Houthi rebels.

Most of the missiles have been intercepted by Saudi air defences.

Last week, the Houthi ballistic missile attack targeted a Saudi military air base in the southern Saudi border region of Asir.

Saudi Arabia has led an Arab coalition in the war against the Iranian-allied Shiite Houthis since March 2015 to support the Yemeni exiled government.
