Turkey and the United States have agreed to work together to resolve issues between them, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday, reported by Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency.

"There might be problems and dissidence between our countries, however, Turkey always wishes to resolve these issues via diplomacy," Cavusoglu said, adding that the meeting with his U.S. counterpart Mike Pompeo was "constructive."

The bilateral meeting was held Friday morning on the sideline of ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting in Singapore, amid Washington's sanctions on two Turkish ministers over Turkey's detention of a U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson.

Pompeo, on the other hand, said the sanction is "a demonstration that the United States is very serious" about the pastor's release.

The two top diplomats have made four phone calls in the last 15 days.

Brunson, a 50-year-old Christian pastor, was detained two years ago in Turkey for spying charges, and faces up to 35 years in prison if found guilty.
