Jordan on Monday said that terrorists in the city of Al Salt, who carried out attacks killing five officers, were plotting other attacks on security targets and civilians.

Minister of Interior Samir Mubaidin said investigations were underway as five of the terrorists were arrested in Al Salt, some 27 km from the capital Amman.

The minister said the security forces found large quantities of highly explosive materials buried under the ground in Al Salt along with weapons and ammunition.

"The terror cell was coordinating with some others and many were arrested," he said.

All the terrorists in the city are Jordanians, said the minister, adding that three terrorists were killed, and others in connection with the attack were arrested.

"The terrorists are supporters of the Islamic State and they were not fighting in Syria but were residents in the kingdom," he said.

He commended the security authorities for their success to locate the terrorists in a short time, adding that the terrorists anticipated the raid by the security forces and blew up the building.

Minister of State for Media Affairs Jumana Ghunaimat said Jordan will continue the war on terrorism, adding that investigations will continue to reveal more details.
