Seven out of ten employees in the private sector are paid less than 1,000 euros (1,137 U.S. dollars) per month and just one in ten is paid more than 1,300 euros per month in Greece today, according to a report released Thursday by the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE).

More specifically, the report revealed that those who are paid less than 1,000 euros per month represent 72.08 percent of the employees.

The survey was carried out for the umbrella union of private sector employees in Greece.

The lowest earnings are reported in agriculture (607 euros per month) and tourism (668 euros per month).

The highest earnings are reported in the electricity production industry (1,237 euros per month), in banks and insurance (1,151 euros per month) and in mines and quarries (1,140 euros per month).

"The reduction in nominal hourly wages and salaries during the debt crisis in the period between 2010- 2018 is 20 percent, while at the same time, labor productivity has fallen by 6 percent," GSEE said in a statement.
