Namibia plans to launch a National Action Plan on Gender-Based Violence as part of efforts to address the persistent cases of gender-based violence that the country faces, an official said on Monday.

Martha Mbombo, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, said gender-based violence remains a significant social problem in Namibia that requires renewed efforts by all stakeholders.

"This is a prioritized National Plan of Action, which advocates for gender mainstreaming and further pleas on stakeholders to align their projects and programs towards the plan," she said.

The plan comprises four thematic areas, which include the commitment to improve community safety nets to drive prevention across all sectors as well as strengthening structures and provision of empathetic services to victims of gender-based violence.

"The national plan further calls for stakeholders' involvement," she said, adding it also considers costing and the need for adequate funding as well as advocacy for youth to lead the fight against violence.

The plan is set to be launched during the internationally commemorated 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign that runs from November 25 to December 10 annually.
