At least 16 percent of Rwandans still live in extreme poverty in the central African country, Minister of Local Government Anastase Shyaka said Friday.
"One out of three Rwandans still live under the poverty line, but more seriously, 16 percent still live in extreme poverty, which is a serious problem to have citizens not at peace because of extreme poverty," Shyaka said at a meeting of officials of the ministry of local government and local and international non-government organizations in Rwandan capital city Kigali.
The poor families spread in 17 districts of the country are characterized with poor living conditions and stunting of children, he said.
The government of Rwanda has done a lot to alleviate extreme poverty, but the country still needs to more, he added, noting that partnership is a key to more achievements.
