Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced on Tuesday that he had issued the government reshuffle decree, but rejected the proposals for the ministry of development and the ministry of transport.

"I have issued the reshuffle decree, taking into account the proposals made," the president told a briefing, specifying that proposals for the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration and the Ministry of Transport, namely Ilan Laufer and Lia Olguta Vasilescu, were denied, as they were "inappropriate".

"This reshuffle is a weak solution," he said, stressing that "I still believe that the right solution for Romania would have been and is still the replacement of this government which has created a lot of problems for Romania."

The head of state announced that the new ministers will take oath in the afternoon.

The Romanian Social Democratic Party, the main ruling party, announced on Monday a major reshuffle of the government, with eight of the 28-member cabinet being replaced.

The first major reshuffle since the first woman prime minister of the country was sworn in on Jan. 29 involved the ministers of the ministries of Regional Development and Public Administration, National Defence, Labor and Social Justice, Transport, Economy, Communications and Information Society, Culture and National Identity and of Youth and Sports.
