A World War II bomb was successfully destroyed in the area around the city of Mostar, located some 130 kilometers southwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) capital Sarajevo on Thursday.

An unexploded air bomb AN M64A1 was found 4 meters in the ground after the escarpment occurred at the site where the exploitation of gravel was carried out, the Federal Administration of Civil Protection (FUCZ) stated in a press release.

"Its gross weight is 238 kilograms, and the explosive charge is 121 kilograms," FUCZ said, adding that the front lighter was deformed and that the backside lighter was broken.

The operation started on Wednesday by drone examination of the area where the bomb was found, after which the population living in the radius of 250 meters was alerted and cars parked in the radius of 150 meters were removed.

After the fire and sanitary teams were prepared, FUCZ team secured the bomb, removed it by a specialized truck with a hydraulic jack and transported it on Thursday morning to a secured site located 30 kilometers from Mostar.

"Acting according to the previously established operational plan, members of the FUCZ, in the planned deadline, transported the bomb out of settlements and destroyed it without any consequences whatsoever this bomb could have caused," said the press release.

In May 2017, a World War II bomb was found and deactivated on an uninhibited area in Mostar.
