A survey conducted by the Norwegian Environment Agency showed that every eighth toy that was sold in Norway does not comply with legal rules, newspaper Aftenposten reported Friday.

Certification mark CE that confirms that manufacturers follow European rules was lacking on 13 percent of toys sold in shops in Norway, the report said.

"We advise consumers not to buy toys without the CE marking. Without such labelling, toys are illegal," said Mathieu Veulemans from the environment agency.

According to the rules, manufacturer's name should also be visible on the toys.

The number of toys without proper label should be lower and it should be easier to detect illegal products, Veulemans said.

The Norwegian Consumer Council encouraged consumers to complain and request the money back if they had been sold toys that were not approved.
