Israeli lawmakers voted on Wednesday in favor of dissolving the parliament, meaning Israelis will head to the polls and vote on April 9, 2019.
After three rounds of voting on Wednesday night, 102 members in the 120-seat Knesset (parliament) voted in favor of early elections with only two voting against it.
The bill to disperse the Knesset and head for snap elections was proposed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government coalition.
The coalition was left with 61 members in the 120-seat parliament after former defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman of the far-right Israel Our Home party, resigned in November in protest of a cease-fire agreement with Gaza Strip's Hamas.
The coalition's decision also came as Netanyahu and his wife Sara were entangled in criminal investigations over alleged corruptions.
The upcoming elections will produce the 21st parliament of Israel. It will be the 13th time that elections in Israel are held before the official date, out of 21 elections held in this country.
