Eleven members of border police were arrested by Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) on Tuesday on charges of corruption, Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.

SIPA members conducted raids code-named "Brend" at three border crossings of Gradiska, located 260 kilometers northwest of the capital Sarajevo, and Samac and Orasje, located some 200 km northeast and arrested suspects of "criminal offenses of receiving a gift or other forms of benefit."

Employees of the country's Indirect Taxation Authority are under investigation for corruption offenses, and are suspected of taking money or other forms of benefit illegally, and not imposing import customs supervision duties that they were obliged to do when goods are imported to BiH.

"In this way, they made unlawful property gains and caused damage to country's budget, and to all citizens of BiH," said the Prosecutors' Office.

All suspects will be handed over to the acting prosecutor who will examine them and then make a decision on further activities in the case.
