Algeria's Workers Party (PT) on Saturday said it will not participate in the presidential election on April 18.

This decision was made public upon the end of the extraordinary session of Central Committee by Secretary General of the party, Louisa Hanoune.

She told reporters in Algiers that "the party decided not to submit candidacy file to the Constitutional Council, and therefore will not participate in April's presidential vote."

Hanoune has previously alluded implicitly that she will not partake in the election, when she said on Friday that "after reviewing the developments of the situation, the Central Committee will decide on Saturday whether to participate in the election."

Two major secular parties have already announced that they will not participate in April's polls, namely Socialist Forces Front and Rally for Culture and Democracy.

Presidential election in Algeria is due to be held on April 18, but some observers believe that the vote may be postponed regarding the current situation characterized by massive anti-government protests to claim political change.
