Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa condemned here on Sunday the deadly terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka, which killed at least 207 people and wounded nearly 500 others.

A message on the portal of Portuguese Presidency said that the president expressed his "deepest condolences" to the family of the Portuguese who was killed in the explosions in Sri Lanka, an island country in southern Asia.

"The President condemns once again all types of terrorist violence, even more vile and brutal than occurred on a date of great religious symbolic weight," read the message.

Also on Sunday, Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued warning against all travel to Sri Lanka after the fatal attacks.

"Due to the attack on Sunday April 21, 2019, all travel to Sri Lanka is not advisable until a new notice is published," read the message published on the Portuguese Communities' Portal on the Internet.

"The Portuguese Government condemns in the most vehement terms the cowardly attacks that have hit churches and hotels in Sri Lanka," the ministry said on Facebook and Twitter.

"Our solidarity is with the victims, the people and the authorities. Our determination is to combat terrorism in all its forms," it added.

The Sri Lankan government has announced that seven suspects were arrested in connection with the series of eight explosions.
