Decline in US sales hurts BMW
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2006-08-07 14:14
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG sold 6 percent fewer cars in July, led by a drop in the United States, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung reported, without saying where it got the information.

The newspaper attributed the reason for the decline to a comparably strong year-earlier demand and an inclination by customers to wait until the new 3-Series coupe is available in September, Bloomberg News said. The Munich-based carmaker still expects to achieve record sales this year, an unidentified spokesman was quoted.

BMW, the world's largest maker of luxury cars, said on Tuesday that sales last month in the United States dropped 12 percent to 23,611 cars and sport-utility vehicles from 26,840 units a year earlier on decline in demand for the X5 SUV.

The carmaker is scheduled to release worldwide July sales figures today.
