South Korea's trade surplus topped 3.63 billion U.S. dollars in October, dropping from 4.7 billion dollars a month ago with exports declining while imports increasing, the Korea Customs Service (KCS) said Sunday.

The country saw exports post 34 billion dollars in October, down 1.6 percent on-month, while imports rising by 1.8 percent to 30.3 billion dollars, the KCS said in a report.

On an annual basis, exports dropped 8.5 percent and imports declined 16 percent, the report also said.

The cumulative exports in the first 10 months of this year contracted 19.7 percent on-year to 294 billion dollars, while cumulative imports reached 260.3 billion dollars, down 31.5 percent on-year, it noted.

The KCS forecast that the trade surplus trend will be maintained in November, and the surplus is expected to amount to 2.5-3 billion dollars.
