EADS to be renamed Airbus amid revamp plan

European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Corporation (EADS), the parent company of Airbus, said on Wednesday it will change rename itself Airbus in a move to boost "predominance of commercial aeronautics."

The move will be implemented at the start of 2014 with works to be completed by the second half of the year, according to the European corporation.

In a financial report released on Wednesday, EADS posted a 31-percent year-on-year increase in its net income to 759 million euros (1 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half year thanks to the robust performance of its commercial aircraft operations.

According to its first-half results, the group recorded a revenue of 26.3 billion euros, up by 6 percent form the first half of 2012, "reflecting the aircraft delivery pattern at Airbus Commercial and broadly stable revenues at Eurocopter, Astrium and Cassidian combined."

"We report a solid performance for the first six months and reaffirm our full year guidance. Cash generation and programme execution are key management priorities for the second half of the year," said Enders.

For future operations, EADS expressed confidence for 2013 performanc expecting "the world economy and air traffic to grow in line with prevailing independent forecasts (with) no major disruptions."
