U.S. wholesalers continued to scale back inventories restocking in June despite a month-on-month increase in sales, the U.S. Commerce Department said on Friday.

Inventories at the wholesale level edged down 0.2 percent in June from the prior month to 499.7 billion U.S. dollars, but still grew 2.9 percent year on year.

Sales at the wholesale level rose 0.4 percent to 425.9 billion dollars, and were up 5.6 percent from the same month of last year.

The U.S. economy expanded 1.7 percent in the second quarter of this year, according to an earlier report from the Commerce Department.
